INDIGENOUS LITERACY DAY: 2ND SEPTEMBER. Did you know we have a 'First Nations Collection' @SSCL. This is an up to date range of resources for you to understand and immerse yourself in indigenous culture and issues. As its Indigenous Literacy Day this week, we've put together an great collection. of fiction by Aboriginal authors, some amazing picture books and interesting and thought provoking information books. On display all week. GENRE WEEKS continue: Each week this term we are highlighting a genre. Join the conversation and recommend your favourite titles through our insta page @sscl_icentre. Our Genre pages are jam packed with great reading, listening and viewing in each genre as they come online. Information – Innovation – Inquiry
The SSCL iCentre The iCentre is the information learning hub of the School. The centre is led by an Information Learning Specialist (Teacher Librarian) who guides students in their learning, using many forms of media and information, both print and non-print. Students are given opportunities to seek information, synthesize and communicate their learning using a variety of technology tools. We also promote a love of reading and explore visual literacy, understanding the messages and images that feature in our daily lives and we learn how to create media in many forms. The SSCL iCentre information learning specialist works with classrooms teachers with our desktop computers and mobile technology to deliver innovative inquiry sessions in many curriculum areas. The BYOD program in 2015 has further enhance our learning environment. For more information about our BYOD program access our BYOD Hub. Students are encouraged to work within a 21st century learning framework through the 4 ‘C’s – Collaboration, Creativity, Critical thinking and Communication – facilitated by their class and specialists teachers working alongside the Information Learning Specialist. The Oliver Library Management System allows students to access the Libraries catalogue 24/7 and book resources online. The App is available to download for mobile devices. The SSCL iCentre features a computer space, and several flexible learning areas that encourage a variety of teaching and learning styles and activities.
